Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Luncheon: Professional Women Speaker Series Featuring the Honorable Patricia K. Norris and the Honorable Pamela Gates (March 20, 2023)
On March 20, 2023, Jennings, Strouss & Salmon’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee hosted a Women in Law Speakers’ Series to firm personnel featuring the Honorable Patricia K. Norris and the Honorable Pamela Gates. Judge Norris served on the Arizona Court of Appeals (Division One) from late 2003 until her retirement in June 2017. She has been honored by the Arizona Women Lawyers Association and the Maricopa County Bar Association for her contributions to the legal profession and the judiciary. Judge Gates is the Associate Presiding Judge for the Maricopa County Superior Court. She chairs a host of court initiatives and programs on behalf of the Arizona Supreme Court.
Judge Gates presented on leadership, collaboration and understanding the importance of being valued. Judge Norris presented her thoughts on communication, the importance of mentorship and representation in the legal world. Jennings Strouss would like to extend our thank you to Judge Norris and Judge Gates for hosting a thought-provoking, motivational conversation.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Luncheon: Developing Power and Influence: Our Way (January 27, 2020)
On January 27, 2020, the Jennings Strouss Diversity and Inclusion Committee hosted a luncheon on “Developing Power and Influence: Our Way,” featuring guest speaker, Deborah Johnson, Principal, High-Stakes Communication.
Deborah Johnson’s practice directly addresses emotional issues, to help witnesses testify calmly and with confidence. She teaches new skills to help sharpen focus and clarity. Witnesses emerge with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner no matter how stressful the circumstances.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Luncheon: Arizona-Mexico Relationship, Featuring Juan Ciscomani (September 20, 2019)
On September 20, 2019, the Jennings Strouss Diversity and Inclusion Committee hosted a luncheon in recognition of Mexican Independence Day (September 16th). To mark the occasion, we hosted a talk with Juan Ciscomani, one of the Governor’s top advisors and a dedicated, respected leader of ongoing efforts to improve and maintain the special relationship between the United States and Mexico.
Juan Ciscomani, a Tucson native, serves as Governor Ducey’s Senior Advisor for Regional and International Affairs, where he oversees the operations of the Governor’s Southern Arizona Office, Northern Arizona, and the Arizona-Mexico Commission. He leads the governor’s efforts internationally and serves as the governor’s liaison with all foreign diplomatic offices in Arizona. Mr. Ciscomani previously worked for the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in Tucson where he helped to launch affiliated Hispanic chambers of commerce in Sierra Vista, Douglas, and Nogales.

On July 24th, 2019, the Jennings Strouss Diversity and Inclusion Committee hosted a Professional Women’s Event for firm personnel featuring guest speaker, the Honorable Patricia K. Norris. Judge Norris served on the Arizona Court of Appeals (Division One) from late 2003 until her retirement in June 2017. She has been honored by the Arizona Women Lawyers Association and the Maricopa County Bar Association for her contributions to the legal profession and the judiciary.
During the presentation, Judge Norris shared her story as a woman lawyer beginning her career in the 1970s and her path through private practice to the bench.
