All U.S. employers must complete and retain a Form I-9 for each individual hired for employment in the United States. The Form I-9s are not to be filed with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS); however, employers are required to keep the form and have it readily available for inspection by authorized U.S. Government officials.

Although the current Form I-9 has an expiration date of August 31, 2012, USCIS has announced that the current Form I-9 (revision date 08/07/09) will continue to be valid beyond its planned expiration date.

The USCIS has published drafts of proposed revisions to the Form I-9 and has accepted comments on the proposed changes. The USCIS website (www.USCIS.gov) indicates that an updated form will be posted as soon as it is available. If you have questions or need assistance with Form I-9 requirements, please contact us.
